Welcome to the brand new Subject Specialist Network Consortium website! This website aims to draw together all of the information about Subject Specialist Networks (SSNs) in the UK and how to access their support.

There are over 30 SSNs in the UK. We work to support subject specialist knowledge, development, collections and advocacy across diverse areas including plastics, portraiture, sport, and the army. Together we are the UK’s largest heritage collections support network!

Why SSNs are vital

Each SSN delivers different activity in support of their collections specialist area including mentoring, training, conferences, advocacy, research, audience development and relevance, support for at-risk or homeless collections, fund-raising, and evaluation. Our networks include museums, archives, businesses, individuals, and many organisations from across the varied subject areas we represent.

In a climate where specialist knowledge an skills is revising less and less funding, the need for the SSNs and their specialist support, knowledge, and guidance they provide, is becoming increasingly vital to secure the nation’s heritage and the stories it tells.
